Lak
Lak is magical energy that monsters possess. Occasionally when monsters die they release this energy in the form of glowing purple orbs. Players can collect this energy in a chaos necklace. You can get a chaos necklace by doing the quests on the Trainee Island. You can trade your Lak for Rupees or boost chips through an NPC in each major city.
Many monsters will drop lak upon death in the form of small glowing spheres. Some types of monsters (such as angels or pixies) will drop a lot of lak per monster but will not drop lak often, while other types of monsters (such as panteras or poultrys) will drop fewer lak per monster but will drop lak more often. Not every monster will drop lak.
Lak Necklaces
Lak are held in your lak necklace, which initially is level 1 and can hold up to 500 lak. This amount can be increased through the use of chaos stone upgrades, available from the cash shop. These upgrades can also be purchased from other cash shop users in game. They are: Augmentation of Chaos (level 2-level 4) Composition of Chaos (level 5-level 7) Reinforcement of Chaos (level 8-level 10)
They are one-time use items and will increase the level of your necklace by one each time they are used. In other words, it takes 3 Augmentation of Chaos to take your necklace from level 1 to level 4, 3 reinforcement of Chaos to get from level 4 to level 7, and 3 Composition of Chaos to get from level 7 to level 10. Each level adds 500 to your necklace's lak capacity.
Procedure for upgrading a lak necklace
1. Make sure the necklace is emptied of lak and unequip it from your character. 2. Remove the Chaos Stone from the necklace using a Catalyst of Stabilization (5000 rupees at the npc merchant). 3. Combine the Chaos Stone with the chaos stone upgrade item you wish to use in the combination window. (Note: a level 1-3 stone can ONLY be combined with a Augmentation of Chaos, a level 4-6 stone can ONLY be combined with a Composition of Chaos, and a level 7-9 stone can ONLY be combined with a Reinforcement of Chaos.) 4. Combine the upgraded Chaos Stone with the empty neckalce.
Lak can be exchanged at the Lak Trader for Boost Chips (explained in the next section) or rupees.
Boost Chips
Boost chips double your damage when used on an enemy. They are divided into ranks, just like equipment, and will only be effective when used on enemies of the same rank or lower as the rank of the chips. For example, when using a rank 2 boost chip on a rank 3 enemy, there will be a chance that the chip will fail. This chance increases the further the enemy gets from level 49. The same applies to all other ranks as well.
The Boost Chip effect lasts for 10 seconds and the chips have a cooldown time of 0.5 seconds. They are instant-cast.
